Hey guys, I'm putting my case forward, plz reply as I need urgent help ... I have a LTD Viper 50 which has passive ESP stock pickups, which I want to replace ... JaxyNikil is giving me a cut-price deal for his EMG 81/85 combo, but they are actives ... I wanna ask if actives can be installed in place of passives and I've also heard EMG 60 is b8r for clean sounds and solos, is that d case ??? Please also advice whether should I go for the DiMarzio PAF Pro (Joe Sat) or any of the SD's, in case I do not buy actives

P.S : Please give correct advice, I'm getting confused by reviews and contradictory opinions

You're gonna have to route a cavity in your guitar for the battery compartment, among other things, if you want to install actives in a guitar that uses passive pickups.

As far as pickups go, each one is going to sound different depending on the guitar and the amp and your effects, so there's no clear cut winner.

yup active pups can be installed but not without ruining your guitar body as the100thone already said so if you wanna go for it then take it to an experienced luthier or buy a new guitar or install a hotter passive pup like mighty mite mothetrbucker etc.

Dude, open the control cavity in your guitar. It is the plate on the back side of your guitar, right behind the tone and volume controls. Check if a 9V battery will fit in there. If it will, you can install the actives without a need for routing. Most guitars can fit 1 or 2 9V batteries in there.

Ya Wylder, I agree with u, thr is easily the space for 1 or 2 9V batteries ... I have got the 81/85 combo installed in my LTD Viper 50 and it's working flawlessly ... Thr is absolutely no need for routing, as many people reckon ... Just that changing from passives to actives is a tedious job, but I got it done from a shop and it's really worth the effort

Well, the ESP Viper (James Hetfield's signature one) has the same combo of the EMG 81 and 85, so I thought why not go for it ... If it is an insult, u should have bought them instead ... I don't think I'll ever sell them since I got such a good deal, so I'll have to disappoint u thr

As for ur second ques, I currently have the Line 6 Spider IV (15 W) and the KORG AX5G ... No probs, I'll lower d gain in any case and anyway, I play by myself, I'm not in a band or doing gigs n stuff, so not a problem ... I'll keep ur advice in mind, but please elucidate what is an erg ???

throw the spider throw the spider
no no no set it on fire :p its one of the worst amps ever made if you dont know

erg=extended range guitar like se7en and eight string guitar which allow you to go lowww
they sound somewhere b/w a guitar and a bass
basically it gives people extended ability to write music
    some examples of erg's are
    rga8-i own it
    rga7
    agile interceptor pro 727

Dude, what d hell is ur problem ??? I mean, do u have something personal against Line 6, please do tell me
I tried out almost everything available here and I was on a budget ... Anything more than I spent was stretching my budget (e.g VOX, Roland) ... I didn't want Marshall again and Peavey (Vypyr specifically) isn't available anywhere
I don't have any problems wid d sound as such, yes it could be too digital, but then not evry1 can afford a tube amp or pedals
So please stop ranting, alright ???

And thanks for d advise about d erg's, though I like a 6-string much better since I'm totally used to it now
Maybe I might try for a 12-string acoustic sometime, nothing else I guess

Just to be evil... Have you considered the 89/81TW? Those are switchable to single pickups. And apparently they sound like EMG SAs in single coil mode!!

BTW, congrats on your new pickups... Enjoy them and practice harder...
