There was a time when a lot of ppl from Bangalore used to prowl on IGT and there was some jamming session etc.
Now I believe you can start of by inviting others from Bangalore to this site.

You know how internet sites work: More crowd attracts even more crowd.

@Alpha - Bangalore's always been the 'Music' destination. Most of the bands, if you read their interviews, love going there, especially those who play Rock ...

Delhi / Mumbai is no less. But Chennai lacks behind here I guess. What's surprising is, Kolkata, according to me has tons and tons of talented folks who have strong musical inclination, though not many live shows happening there. Or am I not aware of it ??

    Yeah true.
Kolkata seems to have the presence which is subtle in the "metchul" scene - but in any case they seem to be well established in rock, blues and jazz genre.

Prob the bong being closest to the Brits have always felt (and displayed it) superiority to rest of India. (No offense to anyone)

Besides, the whole North East, looks like, they are brought up with a heavy dose of rock music.

I'm a fultoo bong (who lives in Delhi :p ) , but even I've noticed that most of the people in Kolkata are really, really proud of their culture....... sometimes a little overkill I think ..... (no offense to anyone , again ....) Most of the hard-core Indian rock bands are from the North East, I guess .

It amuses me when people try to shout themselves hoarse about how amazing their cities are. Calcutta is usually smarter about where it spends money which is why you don't have too many "big" concerts there...the local scene is pretty nice and there are so many talented people! It's almost a shame that there is such little appreciation.

What really depresses me is how different things seem today there as compared to 5 years ago. The musicians are getting better and the audience is getting worse. Today, if you love music, you wear horn-rimmed glasses and go to Someplace Else and listen to Hip-Pocket belt out Proud Mary 13243143 times a week. There is a romantic touch to it but you really should move on.

    I miss Calcutta though :(

@Bjr - I've lived in different cities through out, and my experience has been a mixture of surprises.

I love Delhi in it's winters. They say Dilli dil walon ki, I've experienced the goods and the bads too. Not safe at all (I'm talking about experiences like a shop keeper pulling a gun out just coz a friend was not happy with something ;) )

Calcutta, though a little 'congested' I love my protagonist friends and their company. Rich, talented crowd.

Mumbai - have loved every bit here. From food to culture, crowd to night-life. Very busy lifestyle, a guy like me from a small town will surely be lost / mesmerized by what it offers !

Bangalore - used to love the weather, but my latest experience says - anyone who drives in Bangalore can drive in any part of the world ! Friendly people, great food and culture is great too. Very few places to explore, but those few places are worth spending time and money :)

All in all, India's rich, diverse demography offers a lot. Let's enjoy it all :).

Having been brought up in a very middle class bengali environment, I usually notice that the typical Bengali loves two things more than most- Food and Travelling. I know quite a few people who might eat out only once in 2 months but they'll go to a great place even though it's beyond their regular budget. With travelling, they seem to be more the low budget high frequency travellers. They are, as a collective, very passionate about books, art, sports and music yet they rarely spend money on any of them.
