    Hi,

I am a noob & havent played anything on any guitar yet. I need a beginner electric guitar & I have shortlisted:
    1) Fender Squier Affinity
    2) Les Paul Special 2

    My questions are as follows:
    a) Which aamong the two should I go for?
    b) Fender Squier Affinity is costing 13k in Delhi. How much should I expect the price in Singapore?
    c) Where to buy from Singapore? Any preferred shops?

The price will be comparatively lesser there in singapore. No known shops to me there. I think you should consider the Les Paul over the Affinity. But there a lot of guitars in this range, why have shortlist'd these two only? Try out some Corts and Greg Bennetts in this range, may change your mind. Another thing! Why don't you start off with an acoustic?

    1) I dont wanna start with acoustic because I dont like acoustic. I wont find the motivation to play it. I dont like acoustic songs. Plus I have relatively lesser time to play, so I will learn electric faster i think.

    2) My budget is 10k INR. In that range, only Affinity & Les Paul Special II have been known to exist, as far as I know.

    1) Valid reason.

    2) That's quite a low budget. May be look out for some used gear, here and there (Oh! I'm a poet :p). In this price range, you might not get a good new one so...

Hey!!! Just remembered, a guy on IGT named rickkyrich, he's selling a well off electric, an Ibanez SA series guitar (don't remember the model). Contact him.

And the most important thing, you need an amplifier to play an electric, do you have one?

Ya, amp I have shortlisted is Fender Mustang 1. Getting it for about 8k.

As for guitar, if Affinity new costs 13k in delhi, i think i can get it for 10k in Singapore. And I read that Les Paul Special II is also in the same range.

I will check out rickkyrich. Thx

Fender mustang I should suit you then. I was thinking that you like metal and going for a fender, that wud have been a disaster. Good luck for your gear!

What kind of guitar do you recommend for the music posted above?
Budget can be stretched to 15k & I am planning to buy from Singapore (if I buy 1st hand)

Greg Bennett Guitars. Good for these bluesy bright tone you're craving for. Try 'em out!

Greg Bennett AV-7 is for about 20k. Check out Singapore shops for a lesser priced AV-7 and you may get a good deal altogether.

Yup, I'll support Greg Bennett as well- although a guitar doesn't matter as much as the amp- you can play deep and meaningful instrumental stuff on a spiky ibanez as well- just pick one which feels comfortable to play and sounds nice.

Only suggestion is not to get a whammy bar guitar at this stage- it'll make tuning hell, and suck a lot of sustain from your guitar- I personally don't think it's worth it.

    Choice of guitar

The Squier Affinity is available fr 11k, I also wanted to buy it, while the Les Paul Special II is enlisted fr $160 on websites like Amazon, Guitar Center, Musician's Friend etc. You can check out Greg Bennett as well Cort in the same range ... But it basically all depends on what kind of music you listen and prefer to play

Corts are mainly for metal..Watch his posted videos of what kind of music he likes.

The same vids have a guy playing soft instrumental stuff on an ibanez so... well shape doesn't matter.

Check out Peninsula Plaza. Buncha well stocked shops, prices vary vendor to vendor. Plug 'em in and demo.
Don't take a cab over after 4 pm, drivers'll screw ya with extra charges. 10 dollar ride will turn into a 25 dollar ride.
Left hand side of street when ya pull up, not the right.

@overkill: thanks for your suggestions. will try out peninsula plaza.

    @bcrich & others:
I am still confused b/w AV6/7 and LP Special II.
I found LP Special II sound more sweeter (less bright) than AV6/7 (on youtube videos).
In what ways is AV6/7 better than LP S2?

Also i am looking for a tone more like following :
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YvdeuKadgw&t=1m50s
Its not harsh/bright/metallicy, its more sweet. So will AV6/7 be better for such tones or LP Special II ?

Er... were the amps the same?

The only way you can judge is by playing them both first hand, no other substitute for that.

no no, amps were different, players were different too.
Ya I understand that but was just wondering how/why does AV6/7 score over LPS2

AV-6 is better than LPS2 in terms of the sound and tone you're craving for..
