I was all set on buying the fender strat with the fender mustang 2 amp. The salesman said that he had another guitar that could match up to the strat. It was a PRS custom 24. And "WOW". It had amazing distortion sounds. Now im confused whether to go for PRS or fender. HELP....!!!!!!

    Well not online..!!
If i go for the fender then my relative will bring it over from us.
If PRS then i got to furtados.
I tried the prs at furtados yesterday. Ive played the strat many times and am a fan of the clean sounds offered by it with a little bluesy crunch. For prs, amazing distortion sound and very high bass clean sound(dunno the exact word).

geez, you know this is an apples to oranges comparison now. Decide which one you like more and go for it.

If i remember correctly, PRS guitars were "WAYYYYYY" out of your league, eh???

Like rightly said in the earlier post, it's like comparing apples and oranges. . .

In all honesty, we cannot really help you decide as it is now up to your own personal preference dude.

Choose the one you feel will give you more versatility over a long period of time.

If i were you, i'd go with the Fender hands down.

    Hope that helped.

    Cheers.

I just wanna go for the right one. But its just so confusing. Man i didn't think buying a first guitar would be this tough.

go for whichever you prefer. qualitywise i'd say PRS SE and fender mex are pretty much in the same league. with regards to tone: PRS in my opinion is a lot more versatile but less "iconic". you can upgrade pickups later to taste though.

PLEASE get yourself a nice little tube amp though!

I think Strat will be more versatile with S-S-H combination rather than the H-H of the PRS.
Its more of a personal taste that matters now, both being good guitars. I havn't played either though.
Also look at the tremolo. Best would be to play both of them and divebombing the shiitt out of it.. see which one manages to stay in tune.
If everythin' is same go for the looks :)

    Flood :
Well if i go for the PRS then ill be buying the Laney CUB 10 because pedals go well with the PRS and Laney. If i go for the Fender then ill be going with the Mustang 40W cause its a good combo. I have tried all except the Mustang(Only available at Bajaao).

    Rickkky :
The PRS is seriously good for Rock and "Metal"(Seriously good for Metal).
Fender is great for Funk, Clean Rhythm, and Classical Rock. (Iconic)
    And both look good.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Which one?????????????????
I should have shot the shopkeeper when he said that he had a guitar that could match up to the Fender.

i would expect good cleans from the PRS as well.

i am guessing you will change the pickups at some point - you can probably add coil tapping and switching then for added versatility.

as such i'm not a big fan of PRS, but i've been quite impressed by the PRS SE series. particularly the singlecut with the P90 pickup. this is personal choice again - i would rather own multiple guitars with very distinctive sounds than a jack-of-all-trades. strat, les paul, jazzmaster, gretsch and the list keeps growing...

i would definitely take the cub 10 over the mustang even if i went with the strat. the strat should sound great on that amp in fact.

i'm afraid you're going to have to make this choice on your own... play both again and take a call. good luck.

After casually going through the reviews of both the guitars on UG, the Mex strat has a UR of 7.6 and the SE PRS 24 a 9.1 (!) haha, well, you can always say you're playing a fender stratocaster :p

Yes, but PRS has been reviewed by 4 people whereas the Strat has been reviewed by 81 people (44 by the name Mexican Strat and 37 by the name Standard Strat).
So, i guess the Strat is more popular than the PRS.

Yah, me too. But the problem is that they are only available on the 25th anniversary model, which is not sold here in India. Even at Furtado's they have the old version with the dot inlays. Otherwise, its a great guitar.
