Recording playing videos

I need to record some videos of my playing (to gain feedback/criticism, primarily), but I hardly have any cash about me to upgrade my PC (whose meager specs are Intel P4 2.40GHz, 512 MB DDR1 RAM, and only a 40 GB HDD with ~<10 GB free.).

These are some of the things possible.
    1. I record from my MP3 player's mic, and no video/use a Handycam which I have around the house for video.
    2. I buy a cheap portable digital recorder (like Tascam's field recorders; please recommend some if you can) and use the Handycam for video.
    3. I buy a line-in recording setup (eg Line 6 POD Studio GX) and hope that my PC can pull it off. (a waste of money if the PC turns out to be too slow).

I was first considering getting a Kodak Zi8 or Flip UltraHD for video, but that'd add to the cost, and I'm trying to keep things at a minimum here.

If someone has links to a guide or resource about this, that'd be a nice inclusion too.

    Thanks.

wat i think is you can buy a webcam (shud be very cheap) to record the video and buy an audio interface to record the guitar. I guess thats the cheap and best option available. I think it shud work. Moreover i dont think you really require a high quality video. Audio is wats important.
Or else you can buy a digicam and record both but the audio will definitely suck.

Yeah but with the POD Studio GX, will my PC (*points at specs*) record without latency and pops-hisses-hum-clicks?

First of all i'd suggest you to upgrade ur system. it wont be a costly affair at all.. 4Gb RAM for approx 4k and get 1TB HDD (not sure about the price but shud not be more than 4-5k).

The issue may occur that ur system may not be able to take up heavy software. You can record using audacity and just install the driver for the GX. I think it shud work fine. Dont install the POD Farm at all with the present config.

And also try to buy an UX2 instead. just a suggestion though.

Are you planning to record using a mic or a direct line?

If you want to use a direct line just use your RP in bypass mode as a pre-amp/DI of sorts and you can use your line in to record. That's what I do right now. The video quality is secondary.

You need more RAM, then more HDD capacity. Otherwise you'll just have to record in Audacity which isn't as much of a RAM hog but for obvious reasons.

well if there's an USB support in the RP then work is done... no need of any interface as of now..

Ahahaha, the POD trick? One month after I bought the RP300 Digitech released the new line of RPs with USB...and no, mine doesn't have USB -.-'

This is the kind of stuff I meant in #2. Won't those things record with decent (=better than webcam mic, Handycam mic, MP3 player mic) quality without requiring a fast PC? I just do guitars so I don't even need multi track recording. The other option is to risk it and buy one of the Line 6 POD Studios (why not a GX, though?).

I somehow mistook ur RP300 to RP355.. Well a UX2 is better as it has XLR input as well which will help in case u wanna mic ur acoustic guitar in near future. 1/4 input will also work for mic but XLR is better anyday...and as i said its just a suggestion.

You don't need all that. Just use the output of the Digitech and a converter jack. It's not ideal, but it's practical. For single track recording it's more than enough.

Your PC will be more than fine for recording. Remeber, those specs were high-end once too and even pros were recording with them.

I used to record -- with guitar rig running -- on my 1.6Gz celron machine.

    ALRIGHT. -> https://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/q3/
Sounds (on specs) like a machine tailor made for making videos of our exact requirements.

And there is also -> https://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/h1/

And major thanks to Rickkky for this - Line 6 POD Studio GX for 3.8k, compared to Bajaao's 5.2k (I just filled up and sent them their Best Price form, let's see if they go lower! xD). BTW, anyone know SB Music's shipping and return policy? I looked around on their site but couldn't find anything related to that, strangely.

That's ok, man, I don't plan to buy it till a little bit. Just wished to know what the shipping charges will be (I'm hoping for - and it definitely should be - free shipping).

btw.. the zoom q3 seems pretty appealing to me.. but a little expensive at approx 200$ at amazon..

True. And as you said, availability may be a problem around these parts.

    But...
...but here it says 5,200? C'mon, Bajaao. :|

Bajaao anyways do not offer you the best price. Look out for it in some local shops as well.. you might get a bargain.. getting anythin like that is best if you can get it from US..

The zoom looks really great. A condenser XY setup with a video cam for 200$. That's some pretty impressive specs.
