Guitar < = 40 K Indian Rupees

I am looking to buy a electric guitar mostly to play Slow rock, blues and Indian film songs and I want a guitar having warm sound . These are the ones that I have in mind after playing them in a music store today

1) AV6
2) Parker P36
3) Scheter C1
4) Ibanez SA260

Any help /guidance from experts based on thier individual experience on the above models or suggestions on alternate models in the price range appreciated

 

That's a fairly wide range, the AV6 being in the ~20k range, and the other three (particularly the Parker) being fairly higher up the ladder. It'd be helpful if you mention what other equipment (amps, pedals, processors) you're using/planning to use.

 

Parker P36 will be a bright sounding guitar.
It is basically a telecaster in a different look/shape,
so by nature they are bright sounding.

It is still a great guitar.

If you want a warm sound then C1 with 2 humbuckers
may be what you should get.

So how much was the price for P36 and C1?

And which version of C1 was it?
There are many models.

 

i think a mex strat fits your specifications beautifully....and its bang on your price range.U could also try some prs guitars too.U get some signature series at that price

Ultra : I am not planning to buy amps at the moment but have roland GR30, Beta Alvin's in mind. ALthough Ibanez /Av6 are in the 20+ K range they sounded good for that price.
Coal : p36 is quoted at 49K( hoping to bring it down) and C1 at 31K.

 

Define warm sound? "Warm" is a very subjective term - and interpretations differ from person to person. Do you have any example/sample sounds in your head?

I may get flamed for this and I know you will hate this suggestion but - if I were you - I would buy a good amp - because IMHO amps have a bigger bearing on your overall sound than the guitar.

Mediocre guitar + Great amp > Great guitar + Mediocre amp

^They're right. That's why I asked for your rig spec.

I say, get that AV6 (if you look around and bargain well enough, you could get it for ~18k), and spend the rest on a good tube amp.

As always, try a lot of AV6s before you buy, and if you buy one of the good ones, it'd be good enough to rival instruments a little higher up the price line (and good enough to upgrade pickups later).

Vox AC4TV 10 and Laney Cub 8/10 are usual suspects for budget tube amps, but you can actually get something better. Check out Be3 amplifiers, the Solution 18 could fit well, as could the Solution 18 Live if you add a couple grand more. We're actually really waiting for flood to recommend something here, lol.

 

i haven't played the new voxes or laneys. i'm really not sure about the long-term performance of either, but people seem to be satisfied so far.

ansar seems to have a good thing going: while i've never played his amps and he doesn't have any decent clips up yet, he is definitely in the know as far as technology is concerned and uses good parts. i cannot faullt his knowledge or designs so far, and would recommend him based on that, but like i said, i yet have to go over and spend time in nerul. still, i don't think you can go wrong. so go ahead and give him a call! ansar will do a MUCH better job than any vox or laney PCB production-line wave soldered conveyor belt baby... and it will be audibly better. support local amp builders!

I've played one of Ansar's amps myself - it was a 6l6 equipped 50W amp - I played through the clean channel and it was AWESOME!! He's a great builder and a great guy - you just can't go wrong with him. The only problem is that he's almost always got a backlog of orders to fill up - so there may be a waitlist.

I've played a Vox AC4TV too - it was quite crappy - and definitely not worth the money it goes for in India. The Laney tube amps I've played seemed ok. They dont have a distinct sound of their own - but have decent cleans - and from your first post I guess that is what you are looking for.

I'm planning on getting an amp assembled myself through flood...so dont place your order with him until mine is ready Honestly though - he's been working with pedals and amps for some time now and he should be able to build you a good amp to your specs.

If you are playing in your bedroom - go for a 10W-15W amp with good cleans (I would have suggested lower wattage for bedroom use but at 5W there will be close to zero clean headroom). If playing live go with 30W+

 

+1 on ansar being a good guy. communication with him has been excellent, i really should go meet him soon.

 

I would stick to ibanez if u want versatility...but not the korean made ones. you could get a prestige 1570 for that price ..

If you want great sound .. decent guitar + good amp > 5 lakh guitar with lousy amp.

So get a decent guitar like the parker you mentioned..and a really good amp. I have played the p-40, and it was really good expect for the 22 fret bottleneck.

 

i disagree with the ibanez bit. i've always felt that ibanez has a very characterless sound - it's versatile, but i think for the kind of music the OP wants to play, a different guitar is called for. perhaps an epiphone les paul with upgraded pickups - consider a tonerider AlNiCo IV set? they're very cheap humbuckers ($75 for the set) with a very solid reputation. and there will be more than enough left over for an amp.

 

22 frets is not a bottleneck. And Ibanez is not exactly known for a warm sound.

 

ditto. while i do find the idea of having two octaves immediately accessible tantalising, i think it's a bit of a compromise in terms of tone - ideally, the 24th fret is where your neck pickup should be, it's the "sweet spot" as such. so i've figured that my next guitar is going to be 21/22 frets with thick neck and a slightly underwound noiseless single coil in the neck.

i guess ibanez has it's place asbeing jack of all trades type thing, but it's definitely at the bottom of my list for soft rock/blues (you can't play the blues with an RG!), i'd take a strat, paula or perhaps a semiacoustic like a 335 or casino. a tradional archtop would do well too, but anything with a little more gain and you'll have too much feedback. "hot" pickups will not sound good here - something more vintage voiced and underwound is needed.

AV6 may suit you pretty well. I am not too familiar with the other models you quoted, but my advice if to stay wasy from them if they have floating bridge. For your style i guess it wont be much of requirement anyway.

Also if you have a 40 K budget you would want to split it and spend as much on the amp. So 20K for the guitar and 20 for the amp. You can end up with a pretty good sounding rig.
