hey guys, i have a sony home theatre system and a bose audio system. they both have a 3.5mm aux input. so, wondering how to connect my Ibanez electric to the speakers coz the cable doesn't fit. i know i have to get a converter, but can u get it at a regular musical instrument shop? and will is sound crappy if i play it using these speakers??

U'll get the converting jack on any electronic outlet.
But it wont sound good plus it can damage yr sound system, better avoid it.
if u r low on budget, i'll suggest getting a stranger rather than using your own sound system.

If you have a processor you can take headphone output to the aux in. Direct to speakers would sound like shit.

don't do it. speaker damage imminent. and it'll sound quite horrible too.

if you have a processor, use the LINE out and not the headphone out. the latter is simply too hot and poses a damage risk as well.

isn't there any other mediator less than Rs.2000, instead of processor? i can afford an amp but transportation will be difficult

how about connecting to a computer with mic input? that has to be possibly coz otherwise stuff like amplitube will be useless

    nope. especially not under 2k.

hi-fi music systems and surround systems in particular were never meant for musical instrument reproduction.

does the not-to-be-plugged-into-speakers thing also hold true for acoustic-electric guitars ?

    i have a related query,
if I have a zoom g2 1u proc. Will there be much of a difference if i line it through a 2.1 speaker , instead of an amp?

U need a 1/4" to 1/8" converter which u can get at any store delaing with audio accessories. I have just tried this, but with just the headphones for output; I dont have speakers as yet. The clean sound has no issues. However, u may need some sort of pre-amp if u need a good sound through a software like Guitar Rig. I still need to check how the distortion sounds through Guitar FX.

Yeah right ..the clean through a mic input sounds alright, however even if you make a light sound on the body it is picked up (acoustic electric are even worse), too much background noise.

Regarding the distortion sound of guitar Fx, sounds like shit through the mic input, and guitar rig hardy gives me anything good.......guess all the problems are caused of the mic in. Havent tried the line in possibility coz my laptop doesnt have a line in.

And yeah not the mention the latency delay........the worst thing of it all, set to even 256 samples in ASIO, i still get the delay and it pisses me off......... so i think i'm better off playing with just the clean sound until i can afford a proc and proper amp.

On the verge of getting a few self made procs soon.

let's summarise all the fallacies of this approach -

    1. connect electric directly to system using 1/8" converter - too quiet - boost the volume, sounds crapola. speaker distorts at the higher end of the spectrum thanks to full frequency response. transients could damage speaker coils.

    2. ah, we have an impedance mismatch. connect some sort of impedance converter, like a direct box or a boss preamp. still sounds like ass, thank you full fre4quency response, lack of distortion and compression.

    3. get smarter - pick up a sansamp gt2, line 6 pod or behringer v-amp - oh noes, why does it still sound like crap? 2.1 system with a relatively high crossover point.

...there's your picture. i painted it.

Abby.....in Delhi .. there is only one place to find all this stuff --- Nehru Place... they stock most of all the freakin converters.. You may want to check out a couple of shops (shops on the first floors) as the rates differ, and if you ask about rates.... this should cost somewhere bet 10-20 bucks i think... i bought a couple years ago, not sure what's the prices now.
