k, i m thinkin of buyin a emg 81 active pick up for my cort x6 guitar from USA.
i ve seen ppl tellin tat the cort x6 is a passive guitar. so is it possible tat an active pickup be installed in a passive guitar?? and since its comin from USA, will there be any voltage problem using it with my guitar here?, cuz its 110volts in usa, here its 240.

the voltage makes no difference: you are running pups off a 9V battery. mains voltage does not enter the picture at all.

you can install it, but you cannot mix active and passive pickups - your passive pickups will need a preamp of their own then. i suggest you use the EMG 81/85 set, or something along those lines.

k thx, my cort x6 has 3 pickups-H-S-H, of which both the humbuckers are of coil tap type. so shud i change the single coil pickup as well to active one?and also, shud i get only coil tap emg81/85 pickups for the humbuckers?

Yes you need to change the single coil because it will be quite wimpy (to say the least). Im not too familiar with active pickups, but I know they have a preamp and the output levels are significantly higher than passives.

As regards to coil taps, if you intend to keep your coil tap topology intact, buy the EMG81TWs.....these are new so not much reviews. If you find yourself not needing the coil tap, just buy EMG81s...suitable wiring needs to be done which is different than the current wiring for coil taps that you have....

I think you can also put a sustainer in place of a single coil

Won't the OP have to get his guitar routed for batteries?

Get a good pair of passives. That way you wont have to do too much mod to make place for batteries. From what i know actives dont have much over passives if you run them thru solid state or digital gear.

oh yeah, i forgot about that... you will have to route the guitar to insert a battery holder.

i don't know for sure but i think the EMG81/85s are not coil tap types.

a sustainer would be killer. i love mine to death, and was the most important factor in buying my guitar (fernandes revolver pro 7). dunno if it's something for everyone, i love it cause i'm into soundscapes.

all in all a good set of hot passives should simplify matters a lot in terms of modifications and work required.

how much will each of these pups cost?

$60 upwards. They don't come cheaper.
Bareknuckles will set you back a cool $100 at least.

But on a solid state amplifier any upgrade from stock will only largely affect the eq. It'll clean up the mud and give you more punch (frequency depends on the pickup you choose) but unless you're using an analogue distortion/good amp modeller you won't really appreciate the hotter pups.

You should be fine with an SD SH6 or SH5.

Because people talk about upgrading their gear in ways that would portray it?
