problems with connectin guitar to pc

Now heres the problem.....
i connect my guitar directly to my pc (no pedal in btween) using a 1/4 to 3.5mm connector jack ..... i can hear the sound, but only microseconds after i actually strike the string nd this gap is enough to throw me out of rhythm ..... i use a normal guitar lead .... is this b'coz of the incapability of my CPU or somethin else ?????

 

Hi Zak, it's called latency, and your sound card is the culprit. Can't offer any solutiuon, apart from getting a better sound card. I use a normal inbuilt sound card, but use Audacity, and it gives me near-zero latency. Hope that helps

^^ thanx sumit, that helped me a lot, i tweaked my DAW and now there is very little latency.... more tweaking wud definitely eliminate it...... keep rockin ... \m/

 

The lighter the software you use the better it is usually!
Nd dont directly plug in your guitar to your system. You can end up burning you speakers if you dont have frequency controlled pickups.
Coz pickups can produce frequencies that are not suitable for you speakers. It's better if you connect your processor to the system!

Else bad idea!!

 

Have you tried using the ASIO4all driver. If you you have'nt then its definitly worth a try. Just install it select it as the driver in your daw and set a low buffer value in the settings window.

 

Might wanna consider one of these, Zak, or something along the same lines.

nd wat are frequency controlled pups.... i have stock ESP passive pups

Dude, passive pickups are not that hot but still sometimes your attack can cause bad frequencies. Getting better speakers will not help but getting a better amp or in your case a soundcard made for stuff like this should help.

Well said man, if you want to get rid of this latency prob, you then should buy a better soundcard, the best payable soundcards are those from M-Audio, the M-Audio Audiophile is a very good soundcard for home recordings etc.

 

Heard plugging guitar directly into sound card isn't a good idea. If you want to play through a pc, I'd suggest asking your local shop to order a USB interface, if they will or can, or just ordering it yourself. From there you can use software like Amplitube, Guitar Rig or Peavey's highly rated Revalver to modify the signal. They're all decent programs and're continually getting better.

If you wanna bug neighbors and greet police, run the signal back out from your sound card into a regular home stereo amplifier. You can then listen through whatever speakers you like.

I have a Digitech Rp50 , i once tried conecting guitar-rp50-PC in series but that piece of junk (rp) gave an awful sound < it doesnt have gud distortion, fake sound ... >
so clearly, effects were my only reason to venture into my DAW (FL studio ,hardcore plugin)

but now i see .... its a costly process ..... nd what wud happen if i continue to plug my guitar directly to pc .... wud it blow up or something ??? thanx in advance

So that's like...I connect the interface to my pc, connect the guitar+processor to the interface, and I'm ready to record to a DAW? (Or do I need something else as well?) My recording basics knowledge isnt too good, sorry -.-'

Edit - Has anyone tried Reaper? It's a DAW which I learnt about pretty recently, and it's pretty low on system resources (cos my pc sucks and it still runs it without a hitch) - the installer is just 4 mb (yup, mb) - and it's pretty much professional standard. Though I doubt it'd beat audacity in terms of cpu load.
