zoom 707II "low battery issues" + d unit restarts by itself!!

hi everybody.. everybody can see m new to dis site.. my first post.. so i'l start rite away..

okay.. i bought my zoom 707II effects processor 6 months back. i din't check much but i think it was a bit used.. so d problem i starting havin after a month ws wenever i strummed my guitar(givson blue diamond) , d display wud flash "low batterY" n den d unit wud switch off by itself n restart . i ws not provided wid an original zoom adaptor.. so i used a local adapor(for fifty bucks) which ws marked 500 mA. now d unit requires power as follows:

    wid batteries.... 4 cells--6volts
on adaptor.......9 volts dc supply 250 mA.

i don't hav n amp.. so i use it wid my computer(akai home theatre).. now wen i first got dis prob.. i thought theres something wrong wid d adaptor.. so i changed it n hav changed about 6 adaptors till date..another thing is dat it starts flashing wen m using effects like powerdrive, or similar heavy distortion effects.. wen i use clean effects and not too much bass in d equalizer effect of processor, d problem arrives a bit later.. but after flashin five to six times...it restarts!!

jst like dat.. i switched my adaptor voltage from 9volts to 12 volts.. it works fine for bout half n hour.. but after dat.. again starts flashing :"low battery"..wats d exact prob n can it b rectified.. please help me... i got this processsor (my first) after lots effort... help required!!

if you've tried fresh batteries and the same error occurs then there's problem with the processor........but if the prob occurs only while the adapter then its a prob with the adapter........

yeah.. i'v tried runnin it on batteries(fresh ones).. seems like it behaves fine for half n hour n den again.. flash flash flash "low battery" followed by a restart.. if i start using a "big" drive in line wid a spacey reverb or delay n with ample bass in d equalizer settings.. d prob starts within 10 mins...

n i know there's a prob wid d processor.. but wat m askin u ppl is CAN it b corrected.. becoz ab ye khareed toh liya hi hai..dat also after lot of hassles..this thing is big for me bhaiyon.. so help help.

I am sorry to tell you, but as sukrut mentioned, I guess you got a broken processor.

Try to mail the zoom support from their website. www.zoom.co.jp

Get it to the guy you bought it from, and ask him to either repair it or provide a replacement.

I had the same experience as yours, when the unit would start flashing "BATT" and then would restart. It seems the Zoom adaptor is not good enough to provide the required amount of amperage.

I am now running it on a 9V 1300mA adapter. And the problem is gone. But I would not advise this to you straightaway as it could fry the processor. I took it to a shop where we started from 9V and 500 mA and gradually moved the current up to where the issue was no more.

Also, its worth mentioning here that the sound quality improved drastically with the use of the new adaptor. There was some hiss, which was not audible initially. But when it was gone, I could make it out that it existed.

As i said, do not push 2 amperes of current down its throat straightaway. Try to first get it repaired by the person you bought it from.

bingo... u got it rite.. wise reply..

u R my man.. yeah.. dat was one hell of a logical answer.. even i thought there ws some problem wid d electrons (insufficient electrons).. so wat i did was i increased d voltage (from 9volts to 12 volts).. as this was d only thing provided in my 45 bucks wala adaptor.. d problem went away.. but guess it ws still not providin enough electrons to reach d next junction.. ANNND i never knew dat i cud get any adaptor greater than 500mA.. thanx heaps.. i wud try this out wen i get to some electronic shop..

p.s. like u mentioned a 1300mA adaptor.. wud i get a branded adaptor like panasonic or sony or d same one as i have (cheap copy of a panasonic adaptor wid two red knobs going from 1.5 volts to 12 volts.. u know bout dat) ... i wanna hav a reliable branded adpator :p

All I find in Indian markets are cheap copies of everything. :)
Im not using an original Panasonic or Sony adapter. But I am using an adapter which cost me somewhere around 500 bucks. High amperage adapters are not cheap as not all companies manufacture them.

But I consider it as an investment. My only beef is what made those idiots at Zoom write 200mA on the back of the processor when clearly it is inadequate, as in my case.

PS: Would you have joined this forum earlier, I would have sold you my used 707II :)

My 707II started to do this a few days ago, took it to my mate who repairs electronics, he told me that the voltage regulator was shagged and putting out between 3 and 4 volts not the standard 9V, thats why you get the BATT message flashing all the time, replace the voltage reg and you won't have any more problems providing that the processor is OK. To buy a voltage reg costs about 5 dollars and about 10-15 mins with a soldering iron. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Mattbrich for the informative post. It seems Zoom does not install quality components. My problem seemed to go away with usage of a high amperage adapter. Maybe it's got something to do with the VR. If theblur can also post his experience it would be nice.

I have had a zoom for quiet sometime!

It's best that you use good baterries first, without the adapter plugged in and check!!
    I use a 10V 650mA adapter. No probs ever.

Problem persists than open it up and check the battery and adapter bypass cicuit. Probably some prob there.

n Zoom uses quality products man! It's again an openion thing but it's the best for it's price. 707II if you know how to tweak it than can compete with bigger Korgs!!
