    Hey
I was in the same state as u were in ...around an year back when i started i really didnt want to go for acoustic since i was a metal -rock freak. But as everyone says it is important that u go for an acoustic cause the acoustic will help u grab on to some good habits which the electric wont help u in for eg:- the acoustic will help u play the notes properly because even if there is a slight mistake the notes would become muted.
Plus a person who started with an acoustic can play an electric pretty easily but a person who started with electric will find it tough to play acoustic.
And if u really have an interest in guitars u would not stop playing even if it is acoustic

im not sure bout ur 2nd ques cause i bought mine from a local shop . u can ask some other guys around in IGT.

If u plan to teach urself its kinda better that u get a tuner cause i had troubles with tuning when i started ...or u can use AP tuner 3.1 on ur comp with a mic ( which is freeware of course and pretty much accurate :D) . trust me it sounds horrible if u play out of tune.

    4) Oh u plan to teach urself well u have a bumpy ride ahead of u then dont lose hope there will be a point when u feel really pissed with urself just hang in there and practice day and night :D
I learned from these sites (im self taught)
    cyberfret.com
    guitar.about.com
    justinguitar.com (excellent site with videos)
    ultimate-guitar.com
youtube.com ( tons of lessons and videos of everything on earth)
    and of course indianguitartabs.com :D:D:D

    5) plugging into a music system can suck really bad better of buying an amp

    cheers and hope this helped

    alpha1 I BLUES!

The fact is that if you learn to play guitar on distortion - and thats what is evident from your post: you will sound nothing but actual distortion.

No music, no clarity of notes, but plain mushy squishy distortion, thats what you will sound to others.
So if you want other's to respect your playing, please learn to play on clean setting.
Acoustic or electric doesn't make that much difference, just ensure that you wont use overdrive or distortion, while you are learning.

    Hey no probs
I think the marshall (u can check on the marshall website google it) has in built distortion but the distortion on combo amps can really suck badly as im experiencing that now.
its always good to get a processor like RP80 or something and plug that to ur preamp or something. But for beginners i guess the combo amp's should be good enough
Yeah u can play on clean

    Cheers

yeah the distortion will suck and be nothing like a pedal but its better u go for that now and get a good processor later on. I have a stranger amp with inbuilt distortion and it sucks as u can see in my other thread. will buy a processor later on

Cheers and glad to help :)

the marshall has an inbuilt overdrive channel( not distortion)..n in no way can be compared to a full fledged dist pedal.

i would suggest u better go 4 a cheapo stranger flat amp+an entry level dist pedal(eg. Digitech grunge) instead of wasting 3.5k on mg10cd alone..

  14. r@zor2

    r@zor2 New Member

Ofcourse it cannot be compared to a full fledged pedal
and if u plan to go for a cheapo amp as above said ^^ do not go for stranger 40 W amp its WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYy to loud for home practice ( quoting from experience)

    Stranger 20w: 2k
    digitech grunge/bad monkey/hothead: ~2.5k
just stay away frm mg10cd (had a bad xperience).

@thedisciple if i really get into playing it, ill buy the pedal or a processor later on...maybe after a few months or so

RP80 is somewhat good and costs round 5.2 k (i think)
Zoom g1x also seems nice and is around 4.8k
theres also g2.1u which is slightly costlier i think around 6k
all prices quoted from bajaao.com so price difference around +or- 0.3k
Cheers these are the processors im considering
