IMHO, you CANNOT play all kinds of music with the same guitar. There's sufficient difference in style/technique/tone required among different genres that one guitar cannot do it all.

If you can get guitars from abroad, I'd suggest you a PRS SE custom which is well within your budget. These are Korean made, but PRS clamps down hard on the quality and I've heard only good things about them.

Jacksons mentioned above are heavy-rock to metal guitars. Thin necks, low action - those are meant for shreds and the works. There's no feel in the playing hand which is required in, example, blues.

    Also, buy a decent amp.

Only a Gibson Les Paul (which should cost u somewhere btween 35-40K)can play all genres.
If u play rock MOST of the time, ithink u should go for Ibanez RG370...it has 2 humbuckers & 1 single coil Pup.....nice neck...nd solid built nd a floys rose replica (edge III)
DO NOT BUY esp or jackson if ur NOT into METAL

ofcourse Jackson is for metal. i wnt go for ESP at dis buget. Ibanez wud do d job a model higher dan or 220 wud b better if ur more into hard n less into soft. bt if ur more into soft dan hard den fender is better.

And what is there in the Fenders that would prevent you from using them while paying heavy rock? Many Fender players were key ppl in the hard rock movement.

Or Using a Jackson for playing blues? Feel? You can always put in heavier gauge strings ...

Or the PRS from playing the Jazz?

Designating guitars for such narrow genres is plain marketing BS.

Probably it would made more sense to say that the guitar tha you use for blues/rock/metal will not suit the classical music, or playing hawaiin style, and hence it is better to get the corresponding guitar for that style.

But for this narrow range of blues/jazz/rock/metal - one can fit all.

Did the original poster ever say he was NOT going to play classical, or neo-gothic?
Did you ever try playing speed-metal with Fender? The factory specified action itself would not allow you to do so.

Every instrument that was designed was designed keeping in mind the music preferences of that era. Gibsons/Fenders had their own armies of followers seperated into groups and you could almost draw a line between them? Do you say they were all mistaken?? I'm sorry, I fail to accept that.

A better way to put it is that indeed, a player of a very high caliber could make any guitar behave any way. But that's not for the rest 99% of us. If people here recommend guitars blankly, the requestor needs warned that it might not be what he wants. I don't want anyone coming back tomorrow and saying "Dude, why did you tell me you could play GnR with a squier?"

Us guitarists put in some hard-earned money into the instruments we buy. It is our resposnibility as fellow musicians to make them aware of the various nuances that we have learnt over the years playing instruments. The more information you provide, the better a person is positioned to make a purchase that benefits him in the end.
I have owned/played some high-end guitars and trust me, there's a huge lot of differnce in each one of them. You cannot deny the fact that a Les Paul is contrcuted out of mahogany, which is a much denser wood than a strat, which is contructed out of alder. You cannot deny the difference in tone of a humbucker vs a single coil, simple because they are built differently.

Saying a humbucker sounds different than a single coil, or a mahogany body sounds different than an alder body is not definitely "marketing BS"?

And please don't even say blues/rock/jazz is a "narrow" genre. From your posts, I believe you've been playing long enough to accept that it was just an effortless point you were trying to argument upon and as far away from truth as possible. and btw, PRS (marylands) are one of those guitars which one might use for more than one kind of music, I'll give you that.

Please don't force anything upon a requestor like "buy ESP" or "buy Ibanez". If he doesn't understand the "why", he will never be satisfied with his purchase. Rather, enrich this forum bu providing your opinions and observations on gear you have used and why you liked/disliked it. It will be more meaningful to the people who read it.

First of all, I am not the one who is recommending a particular brand.
    YOU ARE. (PRS)

I have never said that single coils sound same as humbuckers, but what I label as marketing BS is when someone says that Fender is better for blues and Gibson is better for rock, and Ibanez is better for metal. (As you did)

And you don't believe that blues/rock/jazz/metal is a narrow genre?
Why? Are they as far apart as irish folk music and indian classical music?
Come on, and come back to reality, unless ofcourse your reality is limited only to metal and rock.
(Jazz, I admit is a very large musical entitiy, but playing jazz on guitar is physically not much different that playing blues on guitar)

The guitar that you use for Blues, how is it really different from the one that you would use for Rock.
and the one that you would use for rock - how is it different from the one that you would use for Metal?
The difference in all these genres is more about the ampflier tone (distortion or overdrive or clean) and the music attitude (bluesy attitude, 3 chord power rock attitude, metal chugging riffs attitude etc). The guitar ... am afraid plays the same part in all genres - it is only a medium, which tranmits that attitude to the amplifier.

Lets talk about points, and we'll see how these Guitar making companies make an utter idiot out of its customers by making them diehard fans on only one particular brand.

I recommended PRS because it IS famous for providing more tonal variety than other brands. I was referring to posts like "Jackson RR3. " when I mentioned not to recommend a guitar without mentioning why you are recommending as well.

Can jazz/rock/blues be the same? To answer that, try getting SRV tones through a Gibson Slash VOS. Or try playing EVH through a single coil equipped strat. Or try playing BB King through a EMG 81/85 strapped piece of anything. You'll understand what I'm talking about. And also, by making such a statement, you are defying the intelligence of millions of players worldwide, with a combined experience of more than what can be contained in one forum. I don't see a reason why I should dishonour all their knowledge and experience of music and which guitars play which music better. What I'm saying is what is repeated by almost everybody on every guitar forum. Don't deny it and term it "marketing BS" man. Trust me (and others) when we say this, you CANNOT play all kinds of music through the same guitars, exception of PRS USA, which on the basis of internet-wide reviews, can do a lil more than what other brands are capable of, but still not all kind.

And stay away from pointing your fingers at others on forums by making statements as "unless ofcourse your reality is limited only to metal and rock." These kind of statements are nothing but insights into the maturoty and professionalism of the poster. This forum, and espeicially this thread is NOT about you and me. I consciously try to avoid flaming others, and hope others do the same to me. If you want to make points, make points about the thread, not about me.

Anyways, Let's not carry this further since I've posted what I wanted to post. If the original poster has any doubts regarding my statements, he has every right to corroborate the information I have presented here with other forums and judge for himself. I will try to answer any other questions posted, but will not bring down myself to engage in a flame war with someone who thinks the difference in jazz/blues/rock is the amplifier distortion.
    Peace out....

You can chug-chug the hell out of a strat, and I promise you'll never sound like Alexi. You need equipment to support your "music-attitude". Or try playing a "bluesy-attitude" through a cranked 81-85 pickups.
Dude, why are you hell-bent on proving a point which is just not there, and not accepting what everybody else says?
You are right in saying that there is an element of marketing BS in the industry nowadays. But you go too far in attributing everything to marketing BS

As an end, I could write something like
"Some people don't get a point, even when they grow up. " Or
"Some people won't accept a mistake, even when they know they've made one" . Or
"Some people had a really lousy childhood, and vent out in a public forum on all places" And all that would be applicable to you. But I don't want to do that. So let it be.

Do you take the interwebs so seriously as to get hurt by comments and disagreements to your posts?

Anyway regarding this thread, I stick to my point.
For n00b it doesn't make an iota of a diff.

Prob when you are an expert and become extremely fussy about having exactly 10mm high action and exact 35 mm neck thickness, with an exact C profile.
And the tremolo having tension of exact 20 Newtons or you will smash the guitar in front of countless audience because of the slight discomfort you feel while pressing the bar ... then might be the right time for you to delve into thinking of different guitar for each different song.

But till then, my advice - don't get lulled by the Pros and their endorsements, and don't try to copy them.

    EDIT :
Who said the original poster was a noob? That's the worse mistake that people make....assuming! Everyone who asks for help here is not a noob. Understand that.
Actually, from your comments, it;s pretty clear who the noob is

Who said I was talking about action/tremolo-tension/neck-profiles etc etc. I can setup every guitar for a 10 mm action. (10mm action? Sure buddy? Noob alert!!) ACTION is NOT a difference between various guitars. Most guitars come with more than one type of neck profile. Tremolos-tensions and tremolo play can be adjusted. What the **** are you trying to say here? Do you even have a point?

Sigh ! How do I get myself through to that dense piece of uber-stink you call your brain!!

You're talking more out of your ass than your head. Try to understand what I'm saying. Even a noob can tell the difference between a single coil and humbuckers. or an active vs a passive pickup by listening to it. THOSE are the things I was talking about, that they are different between different guitars.

Mahogany body vs maple body will sound different to everyone. Some people probably just don't know that's the reason for the difference in tone that they're hearing from two differnet guitars. And that's what I was trying to tell here, until you shitted all over the place.

You argue for the sake of arguing, and in the process misinterpret and misrepresent me.
Don't do that. Try not just to read but understand also what is being written here before you go all hot and flaming trying to post a smart-assed comment which just gets shot out by someone else.

I believe this thread is long dead since the OP is nowhere to be seen. So as I've said more than once, let it rest. It's you who are being hurt by the interwebs (whatever that means), since it's your stupidity on display in this thread.
