Hi All, I read in some other thread about blues music.. It had a vivid mention of bars, especially a 12 bar blues.. Can the experts elaborate on the topic of bars a little..? I would mostly like alpha1 and bjr to pitch in with their abundance of knowledge.. I've read your posts, you guys Rock.. oh sorry you guys Blues!! Thanx in advance. Cheers, Akshay.
Oh geez... No response at all..? was the question too dumb..? Okay ans this: If I am playing in standard 4/4 timing, does one 'bar' consist of 4 full notes on 4 ticks..? It is quiet confusing this bar thing.... somebody help me please..
I dont know much about bars but. I think its measure. That is If its 4/4 bar, it consists of 4 beats each of 1/4 note length. Cant really make much sense of it. In 12 bar blues the bars are repeated after 12 bards that is the music progesses for 12 bars and then repeats or changes. I am not very sure about it
yes, it is. A bar is a measure of time. It can last as long as you want it to but is usually constant over a period of time. You probably wouldn't have one bar consisting of 3 beats and the next consisting of 4. You should also know what time signatures are. If you've heard terms like 3/4, 2/4, 6/8 etc. these are known as time signatures. the first number corresponds to the number of beats in the bar and the second number corresponds to the duration of each beat. This should give you more info- https://www.musictheory.halifax.ns.ca/13ts.html
dude dont get confused by this bars terminologies they r helpful only 2 compose music actually bars r nothing but a kind of measure.... 4/4 means......4 beats per measure 3/8......3 beats...... SIMPLEST WAY: if u're composing a melody.....then just add up all the notes in 1 measure..u get the time signature example: for 3/8 signature: a measure i give as follows: e.......................................................10(1/8th note)...........................]3x repeat b...10(1/16th note).....rest(1/8th note)........................10(1/16th note)....] notes can be 1 of these: whole note: 1 note in 1 beat(or 4 in four whichever u like) half.........: 2 notes per beat (actually half duration as a whole note) quarter....: 1/4th duration of whole note...eg. 2 quarter notes make a half note duration similarly.....1/32 th note n 1/64th notes r also used so in the above tabulature, if u add up all the notes(including the rest note) u get is: 1/16 + 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/16 = 6/16 = 3/8 so the time signature here is 3/8 P.S. if u actually play this tab...u get the 1st part of sayonee beginning tab.....its not in 3/8 time signature....but i modified it n played on my software n it did pretty well as compared to 4/4 timing.......just it sounds a bit weird if u need i can give u sayonee 4/4 timing tabs too......tabs r the same just the note type differs eg(1/8 etc).......it just sounds a bit slow NOTE:the software I use is GUITAR PRO 4.....its simply gr8 to use
same thing in 4/4 time signature is as follows e.......................10(1/8th note).........................................10(1/8th note).........................]1x repeat b...10(1/4th note)..................10(1/8th note)....10(1/4th note)..................10(1/8th note)....] difference between earlier 3/8 n dis 4/4 is tht i've used quarter n 1-eighth notes here compared to 1/8th n 1/16th notes in 3/8 measure due to this, in 4/4 timing, there need to be filled up notes(actually the measure has same tabs 2 times, dats y there is 1x repeat for same effect) so in the above tabulature, if u add up all the notes(no rest note r included this tym....note this cuz 1/4th note takes longer time 2 play itself) u get is: 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/8 = 8/8 = 4/4........(cuz there r 4 beats) so the time signature here is 4/4 hope u now get tht there's not much difference while actually playing.....all tht is just 2 satisfy the human need for perfection \m/
Thanx bjr.. that was a really helpful link... Now I understand what a bar actually means.. I still may get stuck up while going through it, but hey.. I know this is the place to come for help... Cheers! Akshay.
^^^ u gt disappointed pretty quickly I must say... I already knew all that u've told me about timings... I probably already knew wat a bar was.. juz didnt know how to "define" a bar. I appreciate te effort for showing timings in tabs though.. bt that only makes it more confusing to read... P.S. Try to get the tabs down in notepad and copy paste it. It'll be easier. It really helps if u use '-' in place of '...'
yea i got it after i'd posted the tab...so i gave an apology... lol i dint know u already knew it.....actuly i tried 2 giv th' basic concept...
aah k.. thanx fr d help neway.. I know its coming a bit too late, but I juz discovered I cn subscribe automatically. So i cn keep track of threads better.. so hence forth all the thanx would come in due time... Cheers!
lol....u're welcome netYm nd I used 2 subscribe earlier, but now I stopped cuz I like 2 just surf around n inside the site just for fun, which gives me all th' required threads n neway I dont wanna get pissed o'er unnecessary emails for thread replies....
naaa u dnt have to subscribe fr emails.. u cn gt juz d notification in the user cp. no email nonsense.. it really helps.
yea.. well maybe u should chk out ur muting problem smtimes as well.. its pretty strange though.. u seem to be defying laws of physics
aah how long are we gonna ping pong between these threads... Im done wd d bars d ur fantastic explanation.. lets concentrate on muting now... in the other thread... It'll gt confusing fr passers by otherwise.
