    Hi Friends,

Would like to add some fillers.....

As per a survey by ET Junoon has been identified as South Asia's most popular Rock band, based out of Karachi, Pakistan, and formed in 1990 by Dr. Salman Ahmad, one of the most phenomenal song writer, guitarist and a part time vocalist of modern era. The band was started by him with just 2 more members - Azmat on vocals & Nusrat on Keyboards. Junoon is considered to be one of the most successful bands in the history of music in South Asia. They are the creator of a cult called "Sufi Rock".Defying all kind of polical turmoil, beaurucratic influences and numerous bans, junnon continued their battle in the conservative country till they made thier way to the heart and soul of the millions of pakistanis. After their initial struggle on the release of their first album "Junoon", their were able to creat some impression in their second album "Talaash" but not much. In 1995 they released their third album "Inquilaab" which stormed the entire Pakistan. Their innovative skills and ability to mix classical tabla's with back bass european drumming pattern were appraised around the Globe. Because of their Strong Guitar Riffs with stillness of sufi Poetry, some critics says they are just the shadow of Led Zeppelin but Junoon has created its identity by the chastity of their self created syle. In 1998 came "Sayonee" which was part of their tremendously successful fourth album "Azadi". Soon after In 1999, Junoon released "Parvaaz" which by far is considered as their finest work to date.

Junoon has been awarded the best music band by channel V at Delhi that year. In the same year Junoon was invited by UNESCO to perform at their Millennium Peace concert in 1999 in Paris where legends like like Lionel Richie, Dr. K.J. Yesudas, Ray Charles, Montserrat Caballe and Zubin Mehta were shaken by their inspirational work. It was possibly the biggest ever concert conducted by the body with dignatories from 170 countries attending the global event.

Interestingly Junoon is also the most travelling band from this part of the continent and has been the only band from South east asia to perform along with Pearl Jam, Iron Maiden, Travis, Queensryche, Scorpions and many others. Hope this gives some idea on the acceptability and popularity of this band in the mainstream and why they cannot be called for comparison with any other pakistani rock bands of date.

wowowow... Its been ages ever since i popped back online to this great site.
This thread which i started has reached here:eek: OMG ..
Well being a part of the pakistani music myself now. i think now i can come up with a better answer.
Every band or a solo artist is just too good in their own special ways.
For example.. Junoon.. u hear any song of it even if its smthng u didnt hear before.. u`d recognize the guitars, the vocals and the bass right away...
how about the alaabs gone wayyy too famous ever since atif moved into the scene? and just too pure to define.. the rhythms of Goher. specially Sajni .

So far i used to be quite one sided for this whole time. but now i know.. its not just one.. its all of them which in a way helps other bands and performers to get on top . one leads the way.. the other follws and mends it the third improvises.. and so on.. :)
BEST OF LUCK PAKISTAN FOR YOU HAVE A LONG JOURNEY AHEAD OF YOU:)
