Hey guys, What exactly is "playability" of a guitar? How can it be check? and How much does it affect the playing? Thanks in advance, Sam
Playability is the ease with which you can play a particular guitar. Lots of factors are involved. Like: - neck shape - fingerboard surface (material and radius) - neck width - neck thickness - fret size - fret access (upper fret access easier in cutaway/neck through designs) - string action - the ability to stay in tune (depends how many of those 80s style bending antics you do) and a lot of other things. The only way to find out if a guitar is playable for you is to actually play it. Kind of feel comfortable with the guitar. You'll instantly know whether it suits or hampers your style. Playability is different for everybody.
I play my guitar a LOT. But the thing is that i play ONLY my guitar so i dont really know how it is compared to other guitars!
You can find out by trying a few guitars in guitar stores or guitars that your friends etc. may have. Whenever you're jamming with friends or go to buy amps or pedals or new guitars or whatever. The more guitars you play the better idea you have of differently built guitars and a better idea of what suits you and what doesn't, and whether a guitar is "playable" from your perspective. For example, I'm only just starting out, but I prefer guitars to have a relatively low action, because I try to play with a light touch. Therefore a guitar with a lower action may be more "playable" for me but not for somebody else.
