Will lighting a candle opposite Trident/Taj bring about change? Will talking about politicians and their ineffectiveness? Will standing at Gateway of India with placards blaming all and sundry? Will not voting (most of the people lighting candles probably aren't even on the voter's roll) in '09? Will forming a band in west/south delhi?
hmmm... you have an emotional side too?! but you're right about all those things.. i myself feel so frustrated when i see people coming on streets with placards blaming the politicians.. They keep saying more security measures should have been taken.. like what?? - Frisk each and everyone of the 15 million people in the city?? But now, i think the govt is doing exactly what it should be doing at the moment.. The strong stance that it has taken should yield some results soon..
Not particularly to this situation, but in general - getting into politics will definitely help. Security wise - I see many ppl in for Army rule and other loads of bull. I guess these guys have absolutley no idea, what it is to have a totalitarian regime.
I think the situation is in a mess. Lighting candles and black bands protests will not bring about any change. This country consists of way too many dumbasses for anything actually to cause a revolution. Evolution could be possible though with sustained pressure from Media and really strong personalities committing to the cause and pressurizing the Govt. etc. I blame the politicians. They're just utter load of crap. The country is governed by sick bastards. The one in power are idiots .. the ones that will come in power will also be idiots. I was watching interviews of notable politicians and they have no clue of what they talk. It is also a pity that they've already started politicizing the issue even before the wounds of the victims have dried. Time and again people will express their disapproval and things would be forgotten in a few months and crisis after crisis we'll just end up having debates and conferences and talks. Honestly, I don't know what will bring the change .. Biharis?
a) Yes b) Yes c) Yes d) Yes e) No. f) Maybe. I'm thinking of John Lennon singing Imagine. Rome wasn't built in a day. Our movement for independence started with isolated wars...the first reasonably collective effort came about in 1857. It took 90 years since to actually happen. Lighting candles is a symbolic gesture. It's a first step. It's an acknowledgement of the magnitude of a problem so big that any action you take against it will have little more meaning than lighting the tiny flame. I don't know if people take it that way. I'd lit my candle a long time ago so I refrained this time. The placard is a step backward. It's usually carried with the belief that people are going to listen to you and do something about your grievance. It's usually after your placard is ignored that you try the candle. A band in south/west delhi can lead to bigger things. I'm guessing this one won't but you never know.
I'm not being emotional.. just being pessimistic and cynical. (I had a huge argument with someone yesterday and she used those words) Which side are you on? 1. Hoping for change and if it doesn't happen, then saying atleast we tried unlike you blah blah or 2. I told you so.
see, that's the problem. People throw words around way too casually. I get called unemotional when I'm being blunt, obstinate and contrary when I take a stand and honest when I'm being an arsehole. I have a huge post to make but I don't have the time right now. Curse work.
What do you do - when you give a task of taking care of your stuff to someone - lets say your maid, and she screws ... ?
OK. So after firing, and deciding that all maids in general are idiots, and are good for nothing - what would you do?
^At the cost of other commitments that you have? At the cost of your own survival (Job, family etc)? I guess you make a fair point though.. If one can not do that .. he should not complain either. *waits for bjr's post*
ok where did me forming a band in south/west delhi get into dis???? newayz ne publicity is good publicity....... back to da topic..... well what can we do?? da congress and BJP are all da same........none of dose tail in mouth parties hve da guts to deal wid dis issue..... da root cause of da whole 'terrorism issue' is pakistan........screw dose bastards....dey train terrorist on their soil and den ask india not to blame dem........
Elfascinating, when I said "its your stuff, its your country" - it meant taking a broader perpective to the "own survival (job, family) etc". If your locality/place of residence is admist a riot, can you stay aloof and claim that you were busy taking care of your job/family? And hence inpsite of knowing about the rot in the society (which could've, and cosequently did lead to riots), you were preocupied in securing yourself. But thats an illusion. You are not secured unless and until: 1. Everyone around you is secured 2. You are a hermit living in some micronesian/polynesian coral island in deep Pacific.
