listen to funk and 70s disco and play that shit. if you can't hold a groove, you can't be a bassist. simple as that.
70s disco basslines will give you bass workouts that you can't imagine. funk is important for consistency - playing those basslines for bars and bars on end is a lot harder than it looks.
use a metronome.
