A beginner, trying to learn from Internet
I have just bought a Guitar and trying to learn from Internet. Would like to hear from other forum members on what are the first few things I should learn.
All inputs are welcome.
Hi anuraagd.welcome to indian guitar tabs .
Since you are a beginner first of all you should learn the basics like how to hold the plectrum ,how to hold the guitar etc. After you are comfortable with the hold thing try to play some simple lessons like the open string exericise which is the most simple lesson. All you have to do is strum the sixth string(the thickest one)four times in a downward motion with your plectrum.Repeat this with the other strings that is the 5th,4th,3rd,2nd and the 1st(thinnest one).BUT BEFORE PLAYING THIS LESSONS YOU MUST LEARN HOW TO TUNE THE GUITAR.WITHOUT TUNING IT WILL SOUND LIKE A CROW SINGING.Hope this helps.

After you can hold the pick (I prefer to anchor my little finger on the guitar to stabilize my hand, giving me better aim with the pick), you might want to turn your attention to getting your fingers to land where you want them too go. Even a simple exercise like playing each consecutive finger in order up the strings one at a time will help you in this regard. Assign each finger to its own fret:
1st finger = 1st fret
2nd finger = 2nd fret
3rd finger = 3rd fret
4th finger = 4th fet
Starting on the sixth string (thickest) and going up to the thinnest, do this exercise (the numbers indicate both finger and fret as assigned above...and make sure you place your finger tip right behind the fret for the clearest tone)
The numbers in parenthesis are the strings.
Play slowly and evenly. And reverse, going back to the bass (6) string. Also, try playing the pattern backwards, i.e., 4-3-2-1. If the note buzzes, reset your finger behind the fret and make sure you are pressing hard enough. You really do not need to press very hard to get a clear tone if your guitar is well adjusted.
You did not indicate the style of music you want to play, or what kind of guitar you have (nylon string, steel string acoustic, electric.)
You might want to try a chromatic scale as well, with the same finger/fret assignments...
This is for standard guitar tuning (E-A-D-G-B-E), thickest to thinnest string.
