Toshiba Makes Alcohol Powered MP3 Player
Just over one year ago Toshiba Corporation announced the prototype of a highly compact direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) that can be integrated into devices as small as digital audio players and wireless headsets for mobile phone. Now the company is expected to display an MP3 player incorporating the fuel cell. A flash-based player measuring 1.4 x 4.3 x 0.8 inches will run for about 35 hours on a single 3.5ml charge of concentrated methanol. A hard drive based player measures 2.6 x 4.9 x 1.1 inches and runs for about 60 hours on 10ml of methanol. The players are expected be on exhibit at CEATEC Japan starting October 4th.
