Thumbs up Tabs for the IR Song - Adho Mega Oorvalam - From Eramaana Rojave - A melodious hit

Presenting the tabs for the song Adho Mega Oorvalam by IR.

The song is one of my favourite - so melodious to hear - I think this one is by Singer - Mano.

    Primarily the song is set in raga - Vaasanthi which goes lile s r2 g3 p d1 S / S d1 p g3 r2 s.

The raga is similar to the popular Mohanam ragam with the only change of d1 (G#) instead of d2 (A) in Mohanam.

In Western, the notes goes like C D E G G# C in Arohanam. Taking 's' as 'D', the raga can be played in guitar as under:

    B -------------------3----------------------B
    G ------------2--3------3---2--------------G
    D --0--2--4---------------------4--2--0----D

There is a slight deviation from the raga as d2 (A) is used in few places in this song.

So listen to the song, pick, play and enjoy.......... the melodious song.

Please do post your comments....................... Sathya

I agree with you. I choose the tabs easy to play the notes for a particular raga. If I start 's' as "D", I use the last three thinner strings. This song being in C Minor, these tabs are quite easy to move around the fret board (at least for me). If I take this in B string, a wider stretching of fingers will be required. It is a just a matter of convenience and depends on individual practice and comfort over the fret board.... Sathya

Thanks for the chords and the information. The song is set in a not so popular raga and my guess of C Minor is wrong. It would be interesting to see how this raga notes map with Eb chord scales. I will let you know............... Sathya

g3 presence indicates Major Scale, g2 & g1 minor scale, it also depends on what note the song starts with, songs never always start with Shadjam, chord placements depends on what note that song starts with and the mood it evokes

Thanks for the details. The song starts with Shadjam only. Just I was curious to link the raga with the chord. I will put my comments once I have done that.... Sathya

    Hi Sathya,
You can tab with the singer's vocal pitch instead of always setting 'Sa' at 'd' note

I tried to play lead for "neramidhu neramidhu" song(Rishimoolam movie); piano starts with F#min Chord (F# note is the first note played)

Vocal part starts with C# note("Pa" in natabhairavi)

Is it possible that some songs have different track - In one track song going in one scale and the background music goes in different scale in another track?

How come, it will sound horrible; it will be out of sync, music accompaniment should match the pitch of the singer to sound good; one of the note in the chord will for sure match with the vocalists' note ; or at least completes the chord structure with the vocalist's note

I tried with Vellai Pura Ondru Song, the song aalaap starts with 'a' note

in pallavi the song follows proper Kalyani Raagam(F(s),G(r2),A(g3),B(m2),C(pa),D(da2),E(ni3))

in saranam the song touches 'm1(Bb note)' which is actually from F Major scale, it can be said that the song captures both the western diatonic major scale concept and kalyani raagam

"manangalin niram paartha kaadhal, mugangalin niram paarkumo" and "neekondu vaa kaadhal varam" are the places where m1(Bb) is used

"soodaana kanavugal kannodu thallaada" jumps to kalyani raagam again
