When in trouble, don't call the police. You may end up in jail. That is the bitter lesson a group of three young men and two women learnt when they dialled '100'after being chased by a bunch of hoodlums while returning from a call centre around 3 am on July 19.
The youngsters finished their duties at Jindal Telecom call centre in Punjabi Bagh and set off for home in a private Maruti 800.
The five people were Ashish, Agnel, Abhijeet, Sangeeta and Neha — all final-year students of English (Hons) at Delhi University's south campus. The names of the girls have been changed on request.
Just as they were nearing Dwarka, they realised that a white Maruti Zen with a 'CH'registration plate was following them. They sensed trouble and decided to speed on but a little distance away, the car got stuck in a muddy patch on the road.
"The four guys in the Zen got off and started banging on our windows — they wanted the girls. We got really scared and decided to remain seated inside with all the doors and windows sealed.
