I dont want to buy online. The dg4ce doesn't fit into my budget. What do you think of just dg4 without cutaway (8k).
Anyways I am going to follow the advice people have given me here and play as many guitars I can and look for the one that sounds and feels the best, irrespective of the brand.
1) What other stuff do I need to buy along with the guitar? Case, tuners, straps, picks? Anything that will help me maintain the guitar? Also please post the recommended company names for these products.
2) tallkien mentioned imported bronze strings. Any specific company strings that I need to buy? Should I get the strings of the guitar changed at the store when I buy it?
3) Any specific guitar adjustments that I should get done at the store?
4) Does the color of the guitar affect anything?
4) Should I bargain when buying the guitar? If yes, how much ?
5) Still need to know who is the official distributor of fender accoustics and which shop in Mumbai stalks them.
I would like to thank all the people who have posted their valuable suggestions here. I am going to get the guitar tommorow, so any last minute advice is always welcomed
One by one:
1.Get Case, tuners, straps, picks. Well maybe not the strap. He might not give you anything except some crappy picks, soft case and strap free.
2.Dunno about the strings, but get an extra new set! They break easily if you are new.
3.Get the fret buzz checked. also Get the intonation checked with a tuner. i.e, if open string is sharper or flatter than the 12th fret.
4.No colour doesn't matter. Though finish does. Low gloss=faster.
5. Bargain till he throws you out.
Don't know what that means :(

Also, would like to add
6) Is there any method to check out the neck? If its straight or not, etc...
Buy, rent, steal a copy of "The Guitar Handbook" by Ralph Denyer. A must have for any guitar player
Thanks, will try and get that. Can anyone please answer the other questions?

hehe, That book answers all your questions and more. I recommend reading parts of it before buying an instrument. What questions do you have anyway?

What other stuff to buy along with the guitar, like picks, tuners, etc (please mention recommended company name). Should I get the strings changed at the guitar store, you mentioned imported bronze strings? (again company name of string if there is anything specifically recommended). How to check out the neck of the guitar, if there is any method to check out its straightness and stuff. And lastly, is Musicians Mall at Charni Road the only shop in Mumbai that stalks fender acoustic guitars?
picks-dunlop tortex (i would recommed .71mm)
straps-fender or planet waves or Motion 3
Tuners-ibanez MU 30 or cherub guitar mate strap on
Strings preferably- Daddriao Bronze acoustics(EJ10 preferably)
To check straightness:
Put the guitar in a standing position with neck at eyelevel and check for parallelness of fretboard with strings. View it from either left or right side.
A korg tuner is pretty good, If you guitar doesn't have a pickup then your tuner should have a mic or pitch sensor of some kind.
picks yes, Don't bother with anything else yet.
As for straps, not all guitars are likely to have heel pegs so if you really need one get a really long one. I'd say don't bother with straps right now, sit and play
For strings, try D'Addario or Rotosound Bronze, Actually, use these as your second set once you're comfortable with the original.
Checking neck straightness requires years of practice so don't get too bothered by it. Ask the store manager to look at it, or take an experienced friend with you. You mainly just look for buzz, and good frets. Poor quality guitars have poor frets that feel rough and scratchy when you bend strings on them.
Yazi don't confuse the man

just buy that one, I've been using it for over 15 years and I still haven't figured out all the theory in that book. It's one of those layered learning things. Each time you read it you learn something new. THere is no better book for guitar. Period.
There's enough theory in there to make you scratch your head for the rest of your life. and its only one fourth of the stuff in that book
hehe, alrite. I am leaving now. Wish me luck guys :P
Thanks a lot to you all once again
Hey guys, finally got it !!!!! My first guitar !!!! I am so happy right now
Bought it from Musicians Mall. Was there for a long time trying out various guitars. Liked a few of them, but the tone of a particular Fender felt better than the others and I had a good feeling about it when I was holding it. It felp comfortable and nice. So finally got the Fender.
Its a Fender dg-4. Got it for 7950. Got a korg tuner along with it and dunlop picks. They didn't have EJ10 so I got a D'Addario EJ16 Phosper Bronze string pack. Is that alright?
I would once again like to thank everyone here at IGT for helping me with all my stupid questions. Will post pictures soon.
