    Alternate Picking info

    Hello IGTianz,
Well i am not really a beginner but ive been playing all my scales and tabs so far (1 year and quarter) using downward oneway picking.I came to know that to play solos n stuff u need to know alternate picking. The problem now is that i can play fast downward picking but not fast alternate picking.I am practising since the past 1 week alternate picking in my scales n stuff.I just cant get the speed i got on downward picking that i shud get on alternate picking. What should i do? Continue practising alternate picking hoping to get speed or wat? Also if someone could suggest some nice exercises for alternate picking i wud be gratefull.
    Thanx

well....once u develop a bad habit, it is really hard to get rid of it...
u might find the downward picking easier right now, but trust me, it is not the right technique....it wont give u the speed alternate picking does....keep practising alternate picking....whenever u practise leads, solos/licks/exercises....just make sure ur doing alternate picking....its going to take some time but soon it'll become a habit....
    dont lose hope....just keep practising....

Take conscious effort and develop alternate picking....Unless you work on this relegiously and fix it, you will soon hit a place where you cant proceed further...

But do i have to play alternate for every solo/tabs? I mean what about songs like ONE (the starting part)? I am working on it and its really not going well.I mean now i am so used to play fast at downward picking but just cant seem to get it at alternate.I guess i will have to keep going slow.
    Thanx

Dude u cant start shredding on ur first day on alternate picking. Practice REALLY slowly. Use metronome and at 60bpm or slow, practice at least 1 hr daily. U'll get way too fast than ever in just a couple o weeks. Use alternate picking even when talking to ur mom, let alone the intro for One. Pick alternately or dont pick at all.

I used this sentence to emphasize upon the alternate picking practice. Dont take it personal or too seriously. Thank You.
